Some art has no literal backstory but instead is part of an internal dialogue, where visual imagery emerges as the outward manifestation of pure emotion. The visual result, the painting, sculpture, etc, is the word and the story.
If the art is good the viewer can intuit rather than interpret the meaning of the piece. This is why many times artists balk at having to endlessly explain themselves in words or the expected and often irrelevant artists statement. Personally I love ambiguity. The meaning is as unique as the viewers imagination. I have called this work, Before the Aftermath. It could be the moments after a catastrophic event. But it could just as easily represent the moment before a storm, when winds sweep paper in the air and birds fly up and away. Hopefully that is not all! The picture has movement, darkness and broken branches, but it also has light, stillness and complex layers. Let me know what you think about it? It took most of my energy this summer to create it.
